Well to kick of the Wordpress themes category I figured I’d start with my personal favorite theme, the one used on this blog, Branford Magazine.

I am a big fan of the magazine style Wordpress themes. Branford Magazine was developer by Michael Oeser who runs several blogs including DER PRiNZ, the site where you can download the Brandford Magazine theme for Wordpress.

The theme is easily navigated with a “Feature Article” prominently displayed in a block located in the upper left. The block is customizable with the option of adding more tabs, a couple examples come preloaded in the theme.

Below the “Featured Article” block are two columns containing excerpts from the categories of your choice which can be easily configured in the Wordpress administrator settings. One thing I’d like to mention about this theme is that Branford Magazine did a great job of automating the cropping of various sized thumbnails needed for the many pages where posts may be displayed (i.e. main page, archives, single page). The theme is widget ready and setup for a variety of different page style.

In summary, Branford Magazine is a very well designed, easy to configure and easily navigated by web surfers. It’s clear to me that the creator, Michael Oeser, has definitely put forth a lot of work on this Wordpress theme!
